ACF Chefs Las Vegas own Chef of the Year 2017, Jamie Poltrock, was recently honored by the Clark County Commissioners office for all of her amazing volunteer work in the community. The ceremony was part of a special meeting to honor some of Southern Nevada’s most outstanding women in celebration of Women’s History Month.
Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick had some glowing things to say about Chef Jamie…
“She will always be there to volunteer. She doesn’t ever ask for anything in return. We never run out of food. And she’s just really a true asset to the community that people don’t really realize all of the work that she does.”
Several of Las Vegas’ trailblazers were also recognized, including the first black female police officer in the state of Nevada, first black female president in NFL history, first female assistant fire chief of LVMPD, first senior deputy fire chief in CCFD, etc. History always focuses on these important “firsts.” It’s refreshing to see everyday heroes like Jamie honored on the same stage as these women.
Chef Jamie is a testament to how doing the right thing every day, and giving back to the community you live in, makes a difference in the world. Not only is she a dedicated ACF Chefs Las Vegas member, she serves on the board of directors for Chefs for Kids and is one of its most committed volunteers always willing to lend a hand.
She recently went above and beyond, committing to take on two back-to-back Cookin’ Up Breakfast events as the organization was at risk of canceling the Vegas Verdes ES school breakfast for the second year in a row. Chef Jamie couldn’t stand the thought of letting these kids down a second time, so she graciously stepped in because “It was the right thing to do.”
When she’s not filling bellies at the South Point or in our schools, she also fosters dogs and is a volunteer of the Healthy Kids Food Festival. Sometimes we wonder if she even has time to sleep… It’s not wonder Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick chose to honor Jamie at this special event.
Chef Jamie, we tip our chefs hats to you!
